Place Projects Inc | Places for People
Place Projects is a boutique, planning and design firm located in Vancouver, Canada that specializes in signage and wayfinding consulting, interpretive design, and placemaking services. We work with architects, developers and owner groups to develop thoughtful strategies that help people access and interact with complex built environments. As Planners, our primary focus is addressing user-behaviour in a spatial context and designing engaging experiences through various mediums. Our work honours both people and place, which leads to lasting solutions and helps bridge the gap between a person’s understanding and their enjoyment of a site.
communication design services
We develop user-focused solutions that help people understand and enjoy the places they visit.
Wayfinding systems help people “find their way” through complex and unfamiliar places. By designing solutions for first-time visitors, we can help everyone understand and navigate an environment.
Interpretive installations help to provide context and describe the meaning or history of a place and its features by educating, engaging and even prompting visitors to action.
Through the lens of communication design, our work is a bottom-up approach that helps contribute to a sense of place, involving environmental graphics, thematic displays, interactives and public art.

Place Projects is an independent, boutique communication design firm based in Vancouver. We are passionate about creating functional and engaging user experiences within built environments.
What is our driving passion? The answer is simple. Our work helps people understand, navigate and engage with their surroundings. In order to accomplish that, we champion holistic planning and design processes that are rooted in meaningful client and stakeholder engagement. Not to be confused with a sign company, we are planners first, designing experiences that are always people-centred, while accommodating the needs and constraints of each unique project and demonstrating sensitivity to architectural design and form. We are committed to delivering exceptional end-user outcomes, while also ensuring great project experiences for our clients.
Place Projects’ founding Director, Danielle Bauer has more than a decade of experience in user-centred planning and design. Dedicated to the improvement of user experiences in the public realm and particularly at the human scale, her work intersects the fields of environmental graphic design, wayfinding, interpretive design, and placemaking. She is the former Managing Director of Cygnus Group Vancouver, where she was responsible for leading the studio’s projects and teams including those projects highlighted below*. Danielle is a member of the Placemaking Leadership Council (Project for Public Spaces), the former Chair of the Vancouver City Planning Commission, and a member of SEGD (the Society for Experiential Design).
